Housing decorations
Players may decorate their player housing and other types of buildings.[3]
- Houses will be empty when purchased.[4]
- Players may be able to upgrade to pre-furnished sets when they purchase their home.[5]
- Pre-furnished sets will be almost entirely visual and aesthetic. Only items crafted by the Carpentry profession will have in-game functionality.[5]
- Players may place furniture, artwork/paintings and other decor items in their player housing.[6][7][8][9][10]
- Items may only be placed in locations that are suitable for that item. For example: Statues, may only be placed in exterior locations (of Freeholds and Static housing).[5]
- Each size, grade, and type of player-owned housing determines the number and type of items that can be placed in it.[6][11][12] For example: The best furniture can be placed in mansion grade in-node housing.[6]
- Building skins may change the shape of a homestead but the space available for furnishings should remain consistent.[11]
- When it comes to if you put a cosmetic house on top of your normal house, those cosmetics should be similar in size. The shape will change, so maybe the room layout will be different, but it'll still be like a one-story building.[11] – Margaret Krohn
- Characters will be able to interact with furniture items such as sit in chairs and lay in beds.[13]
- Players will not be able to alter structural aspects such as windows and walls.[5]
- There may be decor items that are representative of unique weapons that are available in the game.[14]
Quality furniture can be crafted in-game based on the skill of the craftsperson and availability of recipes, components and workbenches suitable to craft them.[6][15]
- Furnishing items with in-game functionality will be restricted entirely to those created by the Carpentry profession.[5]
- Your ability to craft more luxurious furniture comes with how much of a master craftsman you've become in the furnishing profession... This isn't like , I want my house to look good, I got to fork over 50 bucks in cosmetics... Players can craft in-game based on their dedication and focus in that aspect the artisan tree.[15] – Steven Sharif
- Prized items such as achievements and trophies may be displayed.[16]
Paintings/artwork
Players will be able to upload custom images to use as artwork/paintings within their player housing.[18][10]
The user interface will allow emblems, logos and symbols to be designed in-game.[20][21][22]
- Guild emblems.[21]
- Flags.[23][20]
- Guild halls.[24]
- Mount barding.[24]
- May potentially show in the party frames UI.[25]
- Q: Will people be able to add custom flags to their ships?
- A: I definitely want that. I also want there to be some more customization elements than just the flags. Whether or not that's certain painted sections of the hull, if you want to have emblems on the hull, or unique elements of the boat itself.[26] – Steven Sharif
- Q: Do nodes provide their citizens some kind of clothes or ornaments, capes, tabards, or something that they can basically represent their node?
- A: I mean technically the node does have a sigil or insignia and there will be certain armors that you can customize insignia and/or symbols on, so yes you could probably achieve that.[23] – Steven Sharif
- Emblem editor functionality is tentatively planned for Alpha-2.[22]
Furniture

Furniture in your house can be for more than just looks, as some furniture can have a functional purpose on your Freehold. For example, your bed can be something that helps people get rested experience. After they’ve rested up, this rested experience will increase their experience gains for a period of time. Some furniture can augment the benefits received from consumables, enhancing their power or extending the duration of their effect.[30]
Furniture may be cosmetic only, or may contain bonuses relating to the level of the furniture maker (carpenter).[30][31][32][33]
- Crafted furniture may contain bonuses based on the quality and grade of the furniture.[31][34]
- Furnishing items with in-game functionality will be restricted entirely to those created by the carpentry profession.[5]
- Furniture does not have any limited use aspects and can be set up again at a new location if the player housing is ever destroyed.[35]
- Components of unique furniture recipes will be drops. The rarity of these items will scale based on the power it confers to the specific type of furniture it constructs.[36]
- Players can manipulate and preview the orientation of furniture and other placeable items.[37][38]
- Furniture isn't just necessarily there for looks but also may contain certain bonuses on some rotational period.[33] – Steven Sharif

Housing designs
Player housing designs and decorations are retained and can be placed again later if the housing is destroyed during a node siege.[30][44][45]
- Blueprints for homestead, business, and artisan freehold buildings, including progression and upgrades, are returned to the player.[25][30][46][44][45]
- A possible design idea is for items such as furnishings to be boxed in crates that are accessible inside the new home.[47]
House plants
- House plants may be available as housing decor items.[48]
- Apartments will allow placement of pots to grow seeds.[49][48]
- Potted plants may yield unique items if the plant is properly maintained.[48]
Rugs
Rugs are a housing decoration in Ashes of Creation.[50]
Housing decoration cosmetic skins
Housing decorations were available for purchase from the cosmetic store.
Household security
A permissions system will enable an owner/primary tenant to grant access to specific parts of their housing.[51][52][53][54]
- Ability to open the door and enter the home.[55][53][54]
- Access to crops.[56][53]
- Ability to deposit or withdraw items from storage containers.[57][55][53][58][59]
- Permission to use furniture or crafting stations.[55]
A property has a single owner/primary tenant.[51][60][52]
- Marriage enables family size to increase by one so that housing access can be shared.[60][61]
- Access lists can be used to mimic co-ownership.[54]
- Payment of taxes may be via a "gentleman's agreement".[62]
- It'll be a single owner based system for those types of properties- for properties in general, but it doesn't prevent players obviously from collaborating and pooling resources in order to achieve certain achievements in the game.[52] – Steven Sharif
