background what we're going to do is we're actually playing a pathfinder campaign uh in the world of vera um this is set before the apocalypse so for those of you who are unaware of the lore of how you get into the world of Ashes of Creation essentially uh actually vera was your ancestral home and when you play the mmorpg you're going to be stepping through what are called these divine gateways from a planet called sanctus and sanctus was really a safe haven that was forethought by the goddess of fate and creation as a sanctuary to provide the people of vera who could survive the fall the apocalypse the exodus essentially and uh you know if you haven't had an opportunity the ashes wiki and the the ashen post i believe they have great transcripts of the previous pathfinder campaigns that we've done during these Extra Life events for you guys to get a little bit of information um about kind of the lore in the history i believe that there are some lore um there are some more milestones uh in our uh donations and whatnot so we might hit some additional lore here but the campaign itself is lower so historically just so you're aware Ashes of Creation comes from a custom home brewed campaign that i made you know over 10 years ago and uh that's really where the story comes from and essentially there were you know these pantheon of gods that existed in a realm outside of the material plane that vera exists in and they were really you know beings of what's called the essence the essence is essentially this this almost metaphysical energy or life force um that can be manipulated to create magic um and or what we would we would view as magic and different planes have different degrees of strength when it comes to their proximity to the essence the material plane is not the highest on that on that you know scale of being close to to the essence and the gods exist kind of on a plane that is the most um connected to the essence but they wanted to represent kind of their qualities their characteristics their their attributes within creation with the creation of something um so they started with a race um that are now known uh as the ancients and they imbued them with all of their qualities uh essentially now that that turned out to be a mistake um because uh with those types of of uh qualities all in one species uh there was a a pride that happened a um a desire to become more uh and that led a little bit of conflict uh between the ancients and actually there was a partition created between some of the the gods within the pantheon that embraced the idea of introducing the ancients as part of their essentially their plane of existence and um and teaching them the ways uh of the essence in all of its facets not just what can be used for good but also what could be used for evil as well and three of the gods kind of split off and went against the the quorum that was established about not interfering with the ancients after they started this down this road of learning more of the essence and how to manipulate it and these three gods are known as the others so the others really kind of embraced teaching the ancients knowledge of the essence that they had learned through you know their their eternal existence um and this caused a celestial battle to occur and um the the pantheon of the seven were able to defeat the others and they banished the ancients and the others from the material plane and from the plane of the gods to the void which is the furthest from being connected to the essence now the essence is a stream that exists across all planes of existence but it exists at different levels of strength essentially at different levels uh that can be um can be utilized and the void is the furthest it is it is really there is a very minute amount of essence that can be found within the void however the planes of existence that are in Ashes of Creation they are connected across bridges created by the essence so these kind of ley lines in a sense that exist within the different planes provide conduits conduits of access and on vera which was a planet that was made after the ancient the celestial battle vera was created to house um four separate uh species divine species hey cliff hey how's it going everybody buddy you're going to be sitting right there right in the center but you if you want to put those in the kitchen sorry cliff is here everybody yes so sorry to get back to the story real quick um rivera was created to house the four divine races and they're called divine races because the the remaining seven gods imbued their characteristics within each of these different races they didn't put all of them into one and make the same mistake um they had focuses really that uh these races um uh uh took essentially so these were the dwarves the dunes and kel um the uh kyveck the period and the alien yeah right there uh the pyramid and the alien so um now when this creation of era occurred uh the goddess of fate and the goddess of creation were very close uh and the goddess of fate uh essentially warned the goddess of creation only the goddess of creation that the ancients and the others that they had not seen the last of them and that there would be a time essentially when those um those forces would seek out and and try to pervert the new creation um as as as essentially a way to to you know thumb their noses at the other gods in retribution for their defeat so the goddess of creation created a separate uh planet that sanctus that she knew she could bridge with these divine gateways at a time when it was necessary uh for the descendants of vera to escape um that their their destruction um so that's really where the apocalypse came to be is essentially the the the ancients and the others they found they found their way to vera at some point and um they came through what we call the harbingers uh which are essentially these celestial bodies these almost comet like structures that were traveling through um through space to kind of find the location of the new creation and within those harbingers is a very strong source of magic that essentially acts as a bridge between the void and the material plane where uh where where vera exists um so where we are today and where we will be playing is before the harbingers arrive um so to give you guys knowledge oh yeah you need to get over there to give you guys knowledge of this period of time before the harbingers arrive um essentially uh the veran's are living in a very advanced society advancement uh vera advanced society sorry and when i say vera i mean um you know they were able to achieve kind of at the height uh you know still fantasy based they're not like super technological but they were you know they had proliferated across the the planet they had um they had really established their civilizations and they were beautiful civilizations they were they had gone through periods of time that were you know heavy warring and tribalism um and essentially they had settled down into these these vast countries these vast empires um and there was general peace i mean there were periods of war there were you know magic that magic would come up every now and then with some you know evil dude kind of exploring the the reaches of of the essence uh but essentially it was it was a it was a good time um when the harbingers appeared darker things started to manifest and um really there have always been cults there have always been uh societies that kind of focused on um essentially the darker arts of the essence uh and um you know there have always been orders and societies that have sought to stop them from pursuing contact either with the others or with um with really knowledge of of of manipulating the essence in a way that's not good so the players today are going to be part of what is called the light pact and the light packed in uh in vera was really a collection of orders that existed uh in a way to promote uh kind of the good uh use of essence the the promoting of civilization and society moving forward as a collective and they were often dispatched by governments whether it be the aylin government the period governments or the kaivac protectorate to to seek out evildoers uh and to stop them but more importantly there were specific artifacts that uh that really became um important uh as a focal point for this kind of evil manipulation of the essence and these artifacts were rare uh but they were usually created as some focal point of where the others reached in out of the void into the material plane specifically on vera uh to kind of pervert again uh what society and civilization was attempting to accomplish as followers of the the good gods so sorry that was a very long explanation

my name is steven actually and uh my beard is gone a part of me is missing um okay so real quick you guys approached this ancient civilization the ruins of this once great capital city and through your miraculous learnings of linguistics in just such a short period of time you've been able to decipher these long-lost ancient language it's remarkable exactly stumped archaeologists for eons the sarcasm is a little i don't know the big deal i mean with one wisdom it's amazing nailed it so well done with that um what you learn however is that uh this actually is the ancient capital city of toronto and toronto was the was the center of one of the greatest and first civilizations of vera this was actually a very rare civilization known as the tauren empire the taurens were essentially half elves they were a mixture of what was once the predecessor to the alien kingdom the humans and the perian elves now the last ruling house of um of the tauren empire which oversaw its downfall was the house of atrax king atrax was actually its longest ruler also its last ruler and he was a very powerful and advanced wizard for his time um he dedicated the the vast majority of his early rule to seeking out artifacts knowledge um the focal points of of essence and he discovered its purpose as it becomes kind of the manipulating matter behind exploiting magic for any means he became obsessed with the pursuit of that knowledge as a as a very accomplished wizard and one of the ways he pursued that ever-longing learning was to try and achieve immortality and in his pursuit of immortality he discovered that um manipulating the life force of a soul essentially is to greater increase your ability to focus uh the essence because each person's soul acts as in some way shape or form a conduit of the essence across the plains so that's essentially how the gods are capable of of kind of reaching into the material plane one of the ways is through the souls of their of their divine beings which are the four great races and their descendants in his pursuit of immortality he came across some more dark applications of the essence and in doing so uh discovering these artifacts along the leylines that are in vera he came into contact with forces that existed outside of the material plane in the void itself now these were unbeknownst to him the ancients as well as the the others and manipulating that kind of contact so can i show these images on the screen then oh well hold on so hold on i'm right right now i am going over um excuse me hold on yeah right now i'm going over um yeah oh okay i got the scene set up for you stephen can i mention before games got taken yeah okay so the board games that got taken these were the ones that were available and the board games that got uh snatched up were pandemic and barrage now there are only four and we'll be doing these ones at the end of the stream it will be the final four sweet the final four the final four okay uh can i continue more okay um so in talking a little bit about uh the ancient civilization of the uh tauren empire um it's kind of equitable to what the roman empire was on earth in the sense that this was one of the first major civilizations and partially the reason why the area you're in currently is kind of considered the badlands or the frontier and is riddled with ruins during this time in vera before the actual apocalypse is because of what happened to the torin empire after king atrax began to manipulate the essence in a way that was trying to capitalize on everlasting life on immortality um so in doing so he came into contact with the ancients uh and the ancients took advantage of this was their first contact with any of the divine races actually and this is what led the ancients to begin their pursuit of vera to start that process of the harbingers eventually finding vera and coming um to the planet to to pervert what the gods the seven gods had created through their second creation now the ancients kind of created this contact with aatrax through summoning rituals that atrax had learned through manipulating the essence and it was through these contact rituals that atrax learned how to achieve immortality but the ancients were deceptive in actually not informing aatrax how this would deform his conduit his soul essentially that exists uh with the essence so um he underwent a process of essentially lichterm uh where he was the first lich and the first undead on vera and it was from him and his pursuit of immortality that undeath became a reality uh on ver and it was his subjects that suffered as a result of his desire to become immortal so he began different rituals on his subjects uh which allowed the undeath to propagate across the world in his population over time um so he would uh before he became a lich he experimented on his citizens um and that's what really was the origin of the undead and this this undead um the ancients one of the unique things about the ancients was their in their kind of first discovery of um of how they could use the essence and what the others taught them uh was they became immortal themselves but they became immortal in a more pure form essentially kind of akin to the godhood that exists among the pantheon and uh that kind of prohibited them from encompassing this undeath component uh but they did not teach that to to king atrax so that kind of talks a little bit about the origins of the undeath on vera and undeath in general the ancient civilization of the tauren empire and their capital city of toronto which houses one of the great dungeons of Ashes of Creation which is the fallow's hold fallow's hold is essentially where many of the artifacts that had a close alignment to the essence on vera because of their proximity to these ley lines and these these kind of sites that exist throughout the world they were all brought here to um to king atrax even after his lichtsteiner was achieved because he continued to to enslave his subjects the undead essentially uh to procure these artifacts from around the world so that he can continue even in his immortality to learn about the use of essence and magic and manipulation of it and he constructed a great vault here through his affiliation with the master um cons the builders essentially of the dunes and kel dwarfs to create a massive complex underground from the city of the capital of toronto [Music] now fowl's hold is a very dangerous dungeon and there are constantly changing um traps that exist and for the purposes of this campaign uh i'm going to go ahead and say you guys have spent weeks here uh kind of going through this dungeon and you know killing some of its denizens and eventually making your way to what you believe is going to be the location of atrax's vault um and you assume a-trax is going to be there with you know whoever uh in his in in his pursuit of knowledge defending this uh these artifacts that he has been able to achieve now one of the important things of the ancients as many of you may know and have not seen thus far in vera in Ashes of Creation there is a primary antagonist that exists within the overarching storyline and these antagonists are the ancients when the apocalypse occurred and the harbingers arrived in on vera and those conduits opened from the center of those harbingers the ancients flowed out of these harbingers and started really conquering the varan planet but more importantly their desire was to essentially manipulate and pervert the creation of the gods as an affront to their endeavors and in doing so they created monstrosities essentially any any portion of nature just was completely manipulated by their corruption uh which is the the negative aspect of essence um you guys are now going to see a very early look at one of the ancients and and to give you an understanding of how the ancient race uh exists they exist in a more cast oriented system because the essence has a profound effect biologically physically visually uh on the appearance of the creatures that are manipulating it and are corrupted by it you have many different um examples of looks that exist within this almost cast oriented society of the ancients from the grunts who are the peons that are kind of the you know soldiers on the front line to the lieutenants who are you know maybe have like wing structures and more um you know asymmetrical appearances to the the large rage raid bosses and or world bosses uh who are very um you know monolithic in their appearance and kind of um separate from what a standard you know creature might look like these are huge uh imposing creatures but you're going to take a look at um kind of two of the lieutenants uh that exist within the ancients and we can show them again these are very early looks these are in-game models they don't have effects yet you're not seeing them animated you're just seeing their um their models essentially their body form and t-pose so you know this is one of the lieutenants that exists of the ancients and you can see they have an almost alien look to them and that is because they have deviated over such a long period of time to from their original creation which looked something very very different more akin to the elven and human races that we have now but over time through their manipulation of the essence and the corruption that has ensued within their race they have taken the form that you can see um in front of you some of them these are like i said this is a lieutenant we want to show the next one this is another example of that type of alien look uh that exists within the ancient hierarchy um so you're going to see you know really kind of a dark more insidious creature that's present as the primary antagonist within the storyline of ashes of creation um you know they they don't have the typical physical attributes you come to expect from a bipedal species like eyes and a mouth but more you know something alien that exists something that is just not natural in its appearance you will be seeing these soon in game as a matter of fact these particular two models with alpha one they will be animated and present as adversaries in some of the dungeon locations within Ashes of Creation and you will get to fight them essentially now when you come back to vera obviously in action of creation you will be reclaiming these territories that were previously taken by the ancients and as i said the ancients exist within the void until there is a conduit that opens for them to enter into the material plane so a lot of the harbingers that still exist on vera as dungeons essentially is where the ancients are capable of kind of pushing into the material plane and they can continue to do so under the guise of the effects of corruption as it spreads and there are events that lead to the spreading of corruption that players will kind of have to fight back against these events that occur players are going to need to participate to kind of keep the intrusion on the material plane back um so yeah that's uh i think the five lore points just to go over for you guys was um essentially talking about the uh ancient civilization of the uh tauren empire um while also explaining a little bit about the origins of the undeath um the ancients and the kind of particulars of their society and their caste system um artifacts of the a-trax i'm sorry i missed that so follows hold i told you a little bit about that so aatrax originally in his pursuit of immortality he was referencing some ancient text that his people had brought to him as their discoveries when they were going seeking antiquities of the world and this was many millennia prior to the actual apocalypse they sought out four particular uh artifacts they sought out a chalice a golden chalice that was believed to bring everlasting life but it was actually allowing the corruption of uh manipulating the essence to enter the soul through a more physical kind of representation which is drinking something but that ritual involved actually corrupting the the central uh you know component of what the human soul is or the elven soul is there was the crown which was the dominance that the ancients had over eight tracks it represented this was a direct uh link into the thought process of king atrax himself that the ancients were able to manipulate uh there was the sword which brought unusual power through manipulation of the evil side of what the essence can be used for and this was how he kind of maintained his dominance over his people was through the it was through his physical might essentially striking down any foe that opposed him among his administration and then there was the staff which was the ability to protrude his magic across great distances part of why his civilization prospered was because he was able to extend his power throughout a large portion of the lands of vera and that allowed him to maintain by both vigilance and what was happening across his realm uh as well as the the ability to manipulate the world around him so those are the four artifacts that he sought as kind of his um to bring it to a harry potter reference i guess a deathly hallow kind of like a deathly hallow a little bit uh right these were the tools of power how he maintained uh his ability to control things um so yeah that's what you're saying if i picked up the asylums you can be hatred anymore are those are those items going to be available to be found in-game we will see oh those items yes so absolutely so those items are uh available artifacts that will be present in game now they'll be considered what are called relics and relics are essentially as some of you know um these are items that can be found that don't have any individuals i can share these images on social media relics don't have any individual use they instead are housed within the reliquary of nodes and they're essentially achievements they're discoveries that the nodes can make and it benefits the citizens because as crafters as explorers and adventurers you as players you can come and if you're a citizen of a node that has made these achievements and houses some of these relics you can apply uh through certain quest lines to get copies under applications of the relics and utilize them in crafting enchantments and crafting certain weapons and armor types and sets and bonuses like that and it's also one of the reasons why players will want to siege notes is because as you if you see your node successfully uh the attackers have access to the reliquary and game copies application-wise certificates essentially of some of the relics that the node has achieved over time and essentially the longer a node exists the more relics it accrues the bigger target it becomes um so you know these are components that players will search out are they are they unique yes and they're once and they're persistent in game which means players can't go stick it in their bank no yeah so players don't have ownership over these relics right there we got node does it's an object yes yes you can do that over the weekend you know you know you know so you know where i got the idea of the relics from was one of my favorite games no one my favorite games was uh age of empires 2. and remember i used that was one of the victory conditions it was one of my favorite inspirations um yeah okay so that i think oh and then uh so you got the you got the uh artifacts of eight tracks and then you also heard about fellows home so those are the five lore reveals i hope you guys enjoyed them and it gave i was not expecting you to give that oh that information that information that's pretty awesome yeah i mean they're gonna start experiencing them in alpha 1 anyways the two of the ancients so it's not too you know too far out of a review
